Sure, it’s not exactly spring yet but this is Florida we’re talking about here, so ‘seasons’ aren’t actually a thing and the weather is as unpredictable as our headlines.

So with that in mind, we present eight tips and tricks for ‘spring’ cleaning the outside of your home – especially now that you’ve KonMari’ed  the inside.

Windows

Clean your screens first so they’re ready for those sunny, breezy spring days that just beg for open windows. Then, take some time to clean your window themselves, whether with a hose for a quick rinse or with a sponge, soapy water and a squeegee if you’re going for extra credit.

Gutters

Cleaning gutters is easily one of the least desirable homeownership tasks but incredibly critical. Chances are, they’re full of leaves, twigs, debris and – shudder warning – creepy crawlies that will make the rainy season miserable for you if they can’t do their job and take water away from your house.

Garage

For many of us, our garage is a big catch-all with God-only-knows-what thrown out there, never to be seen – or found – again. Find a home or designated are for things by category, and take time to go through each of the – shudder warning – potentially bug-infested boxes to rid yourself of things you no longer need or want.

Fences

Once everyone is ready to spend more time outside, it’s time to take a look at your fences. Rot is one of the biggest issues to look for with a wooden fence, as well as any loose parts. With a metal fence, make sure there aren’t any holes or places where it’s pulling away from the ground to keep kids and pets in – and pests out!

Yard

To ready your yard for spring, get rid of soggy leaves choking your lawn and garden. Then, pull weeds and prune overgrown shrubs to make way for new growth. And if none of these tasks are your cup of tea, you can always call in the professionals to give you a head start!

Deck

Next up are any neglected patios or decks. Sweep off any debris and ‘relocate’ cobwebs. And if you have outdoor furniture, hose it down and deep clean any dirty cushions. Tackle any mildew, stains or molds with a pressure washer and some deck-cleaning solution.

PRO TIP: This is also a good time to give your grill a once-over and deep cleaning, too.

Paint

Time and weather can really dull a house’s exterior paint so take a quick walk of your property to see if your house needs a touch-up or a full repainting. Same goes for your garage door, shutters and front door. This particular to-do item takes a little more time but adds a lot to curb appeal.

Pressure Wash

Consider borrowing a pressure washer or rent one from your local hardware store to deep clean all the grime that has built up over the last few months. Be sure to factor that certain kinds of siding can’t withstand pressure, so make sure yours can. And while you’re at it, give a little TLC to walkways and driveways, too.

We realize that in life, it’s what’s on the inside that counts but if you plan on spending more time outside in the coming months, it’s not a bad idea to give a little love and attention to the outside, too.

Like we’ve said before, we believe that being your real estate partner is more than helping you buy or sell a home. It means partnering with you for the long haul, making sure that you can call each and every property home, from the brick-and-mortar to the soup-to-nuts details inside.
