Sure, there’s a hurricane threatening to dampen – literally and figuratively – our three-day weekend but this is Florida and nothing – OK, very little – stands in the way of us and a good time.

So while Labor Day typically evokes visions of a long weekend full of sun, fun, and relaxation to ceremoniously ring in the end of summer, Hurricane Dorian may just rob us of the ‘sun’ on that list.

Summer of Rum Festival | Aug. 31 | 12n-11 p.m.

Island-inspired celebration of rum moves to Curtis Hixon Park for the Summer of Rum Festival, allowing for more ‘rum zones’ and shacks to serve up more than 40 rums from around the world. Includes live entertainment by headliner Baha Men, fireworks and food trucks. $15 (general); $80 (VIP). 

Clearwater Threshers | Aug. 30 | 6:15 p.m.

It’s Fan Appreciation Night and a salute to Labor Day with the Clearwater Threshers. Stick around after the game for the Thresher’s biggest fireworks and laser light display of the season. $6-$10. 

Gecko Fest | Aug. 31 | 10 a.m.-10 p.m.

This whimsical Gecko Fest family street festival gives a nod to Woodstock to celebrate Labor Day weekend and the end of summer. The street party includes live music on two stages, street performers, balloon art, costume contest, a street dance, and vendors. Costumes are strongly encouraged. Free. 

Shephard’s Labor Day Weekend | Aug. 31-Sept. 1 | 1 p.m.

Spend the weekend partying by the beach at Shephard’s Beach Resort with headlining DJs including Jersey Shore’s Pauly D, DJ Dani, Ayesik, Scotty Boy, Kid U Not and Dean Manson.

St. Pete Crab and Music Festival | Aug. 31 | 12n-10 p.m.

Queen B of 95.7 the Beat hosts the St. Pete Crab and Music Festival with crabs and crab dishes, local seafood, children’s activities, big-screen viewing of the FSU/Alabama game and live entertainment by National acts including Rome, Tonny Terry and comedian Tiny. $20. 

Celebrate Oldsmar | Aug. 30-31 | 6-10 p.m.

Bring blankets and chairs for two nights of a Labor Day salute at Celebrate Oldsmar for family fun with carnival rides, games, live music by Soul Circus Cowboys on Friday, and Stormbringer and fireworks on Saturday. Food, beer, and wine will be available for purchase. Free.

Labor Day Picnic | Sept. 2 | 12n-4 p.m.

Bring towels and lawn chairs for the Labor Day Picnic with a day of slip and slide fun with a barbecue cookout and a checkers tournament. Free.

Labor Day Weekend Festival | Aug. 31 | 7 p.m.

Enjoy a musical celebration at the Labor Day Weekend Festival with Maze featuring Frankie Beverly, Kelly Price, Tank, and Nephew Tommy. $29.50-$128.50. University of South Florida Sun Dome, 4202 E Fowler Ave., Tampa. (813) 974-3004. 

Poolside Holiday Picnic | Sept. 2 | 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Pack a picnic basket and bring the family for the Poolside Holiday Picnic at the Highland Recreation Complex and Family Aquatic Center.

License-Free Saltwater Fishing Day | Aug. 31 | 12:01 a.m.-11:59 p.m.

Recreational fishermen celebrate Labor Day with rod and reel in hand at no cost at the License-Free Saltwater Fishing Day. Held a few times a year, this free fishing day provides an opportunity to introduce everyone to fishing. License requirement waived for all recreational anglers. All other rules regarding season, bag and size limits apply. The saltwater waiver applies to any recreational harvest requiring a saltwater fishing license or permit including snook and spiny lobster. Free. 

Electric Ocean | Aug. 31-Sept. 1 7:30-10 p.m. | Sept. 2 8-9:30 p.m.

It’s the final performances for SeaWorld’s glowing late-night Electric Ocean party featuring DJ dancing with illuminated sea creatures, fireworks, Sea Lion Tonight and Shamu’s Celebration: Light Up the Night. Included with admission: $99, $94 ages 3-9. 

Rock The Yacht | Aug. 31 | 10 p.m.

Enjoy Labor Day weekend at the Rock The Yacht R&B soul party on the open water with live music by the Bus Stop Band, food and drink specials on board. 21 and older only. $30. Yacht StarShip, 603 Channelside Drive, Tampa.
